MEET THE CANDIDATE

Christine "Tina" Larsen
"I think there's no higher calling in terms of a career than public service, which is a chance to make a difference in people's lives and change the world."

- Jack Lew
Christine "Tina" Larsen, pleased to meet you! St. Croix is and always will be my home. I have spent the last 15 years working for our people in several capacities throughout various government agencies. After much reflection and prayer, I've decided to embark on a new journey of public service: the VI Legislature.

Public service is my passion and life-long commitment because I believe in looking out for the little guy (or gal). Anyone who knows me can tell you that I am a fierce advocate for equity and fairness. That's what our people deserve and that's what I'm going to fight for!

Why run for senate?

I went to a predominantly white institution for college. Basically, there were few people of color and fewer resources for them to navigate the harsh realities of college.

In my freshman year, there were a lot of incidents of racism among the student body. Offensive graffiti, nasty letters, harassment, and other micro-aggressions were plaguing students of color constantly. When these concerns were taken to the University leadership, the response was largely apathetic.

They created a council to discuss problems of race, without actually addressing them. What's worse is that most of the counselors couldn't relate to our experiences because they too were white.

There were no adequate resources for us and no representation in the school's leadership.  Many of us dropped out because of the stress and anxiety. I was determined to make it, but I have my strong upbringing, Crucian heritage, and God to thank for that.

Why am I running for Senate? Because I remember what it felt like to have no voice. I remember how it felt when no one cared about our suffering. It was then that I decided that if no one would stand up for the downtrodden, then I will. Let us rise together.
